  • Cross processing.

    A lot of people have asked how I did the effect on the photo of Harry and the flag. So here’s my version of “cross processing”. (Sorry, very corny)

  • Directional light from your on-camera flash.

    Most often when photographers start using their flashguns out of the directly-forward position, they move the flash head to point 45’ or 90’ upward. The idea here is to bounce flash off the ceiling. Even though this is an improvement in most cases over using the flashgun pointing directly forward, this is also most often not ideal. We can improve on this.

  • Placing the Center of Interest.

    Sometimes it’s pretty obvious where the centre of interest has to go and there really aren’t a whole lot of choices. If the main subject basically fills the frame, then that’s pretty much the end of the discussion. It’s hard in a head and shoulders portrait to place it at the side without looking very odd. Should the portrait be more environmental, then your options open up considerably.

Сегодня будет только одна, зато какая: Nycgraphix BlogPhoto. Блог существует меньше месяца (даже раздел About не написан) — свежачок. Но за это время там опубликовано несколько шикарных записей:

  • Photoshop Resources. Аналогичное про Photoshop.
  • Lightroom Presets. Это они у кого-то сперли, кажется.
  • Lightroom Tips. Хитрости Adobe Lightroom (лично я не совсем понимаю, чего это все с ним так носятся, на мой взгляд не очень удобная штука, но допускаю, что это дело привычки).
  • Create Stock Photos. Несколько советов по съемке для стоков. Забавно, но автор блога сам регулярно спрашивает у читателей, что можно улучшить в его собственных стоковых снимках.

    Ever tried to photograph a scene that has a laser in it? Tried to use smoke or some other hazing agent to interfere with the beam just to get poor results? Here’s the photographic tip that’s made for perfect laser beams.

  • Eyeshadow Photoshop Brushes.

    A set of Photoshop brushes made up of various shapes of eyeshadow. It includes just about every one of the traditional eye shadow shapes, either broken up into individual brushes… or all together.     Harmonic colors are sets of colors that are aesthetically pleasing in terms of human visual perception. In this paper, we present a method that enhances the harmony among the colors of a given photograph or of a general image, while remaining faithful, as much as possible, to the original colors. Given a color image, our method finds the best harmonic scheme for the image colors. It then allows a graceful shifting of hue values so as to fit the harmonic scheme while considering spatial coherence among colors of neighboring pixels using an optimization technique. The results demonstrate that our method is capable of automatically enhancing the color “look-and-feel” of an ordinary image. In particular, we show the results of harmonizing the background image to accommodate the colors of a foreground image, or the foreground with respect to the background, in a cut-and-paste setting. Our color harmonization technique proves to be useful in adjusting the colors of an image composed of several parts taken from different sources.

Ресурсы по фотографии, которые я читаю

Под катом большой список сайтов, в той или иной степени, касающихся фотографии. Список получен путем экспорта ленты из моего feed-ридера, поэтому немного непричесан. Не могу сказать, что все перечисленные сайты относятся к категории “must read”, но в целом считаю подборку достаточно удачной. OPML.

  • How to Shoot Roads in Photography. Несколько полезных хитростей и приемов при фотографировании дорог.
  • B/W Conversion. Длиннющий видеотуториал по преобразованию цветного исходника в черно-белое изображение. Разумеется, речь идет о цифре.
  • How To Choose Images To Save. Какая знакомая проблема. Уверен, что практически каждый фотограф-папаша сталкивается с ней: слишком много снимков с ребенком, и каждый очень дорог, а винчестеры не резиновые.
  • Pocket Tripod. Инструкция по изготовлению карманного мини-штатива, который можно присобачить к любому (ну, почти к любому) устойчивому объекту. Штука получается страшненькая, но, по-моему, достаточно удобная.
  • Studio Portrait Lighting. Небольшое иллюстрированное руководство по студийному свету. Наглядно показано для чего нужен тот или иной элемент освещения.
  • ISO 3200 vs. Digital Pushing. Любопытный вопрос: что лучше в плане качества картинки (по шумам) — снимать на цифру сразу в ISO3 200 или в ISO 1600 с недодержкой, которую потом «вытягивать» в RAW-конвертере. Выводы получились неоднозначные: выбор метода зависит от сюжета. Подозреваю, что и от камеры.
