  I haven’t posted a good camera modification in a while, so it feels good to present you with this new tutorial on how to build your own tilt-shift lens. Have you seen those photos where only a small part of the picture is in focus and the rest of the image gets dramatically blurred? If you ever wondered how this effect is created, chances are the picture was taken with a tilt-shift lens. Most lenses are fixed exactly parallel to your lens because that is the position that will distribute the light evenly and keep focus at a fixed distance. A tilt-shift lens is different because it allows you pivot the lens. By “tilting” and “shifting” the lens you can throw things out of focus in unconventional ways. Using a tilt-shift lens is a fun way to inject your photos with drama and controlled distortion. Here is a link to a good Flickr gallery full of examples of tilt-shift to give you an idea of what is possible with a tilt-shift lens.

  Luckily enough when I was in Keeble and Schucat today I saw an old folding camera on sale for only $5.00! bargain. Remembering John’s notes on the bottom of his page, he thought that they could be a good lens to attempt instead of using a plastic film bag since the bellows are built in. Plus much cheaper than using an enlarger lens.

  A Contessa Nettel Cocarette camera attached to my Sony DSLR A100 by means of sticking an 11mm M42 extension tube to the rear port of the camera. The moving lens assembly allows infinity focus to be achieved, enabling the 105mm f/4.5 Carl Zeiss Tessar lens to be utilized with the DSLR. (Or indeed, almost any SLR capable of accepting M42 lenses either directly or with an adapter…)

  Пришла в голову идея построить сооружение из тонких пенопластовых плит, которые используются для отделки потолков. Берём 5 панелей, при помощи скотча соединяем и в итоге получаем забавный пенопластовый домик )) Внутри закрепляем белый лист бумаги, сверху ставим вспышку и бокс готов!

Может я чего-то не понимаю, но по-моему всемирно известная «Photoshop-гуру» Кэтрин Айсманн (Katrin Eismann) достаточно посредственный фотограф.

  Twin Lens Reflex — двухобъективная зеркальная камера — изысканный профессиональный инструмент, который позволяет фотографу получать максимум качества, не привлекая излишнего внимания окружающих. За архаичной внешностью скрываются несколько важнейших достоинств, присущих такой конструкции. Как следует из названия, главная особенность TLR-камеры — два объектива. • The memory card and ISO affair. Занятное наблюдение: почему при повышении ISO увеличивается и размер RAW-файла. Ответ, в общем-то, очевиден: дело в шуме, который по-сути является кучей хаотично разбросанных мелких деталей.

  Коротко о том, откуда берётся боке и какие основные факторы на него влияют. Боке — это вид изображения в зоне нерезкости, то как объектив размывает нерезкие объекты. Каждую точку объекта вне зоны фокуса объектив изображает в виде некоторого пятна конечного размера. Наложение таких пятен друг на друга и создаёт расфокусированное изображение. Фактически, характер боке определяется именно видом этого пятна размытия.

  I think all photographers have at least a little streak of tech head. For some it is their raison d’etre, following a never ending passion (as far as their budget will take them) in search of new and better photo toys. For others, opening a new box brings less excitement, but let’s face it, everyone savors the potential that the latest technology seems to offer.

  Еще недавно только как шутка и удачная фотожаба рассматривались в интернете картинки мобильных телефонов с прикрученным сменным объективом. Но то, что казалось шуткой, теперь стало явью.

• Готовим фото для журнала. Матерый матерьяльчик. Как по мне, так результат выглядит совершенно ужасно, но несколько моментов стоит взять на заметку.
  

  Этот довольно большой урок охватывает многие аспекты работы над портретной ретушью – от ретуши морщин и веснушек, до придания кожи гладкой и ровной текстуры, распределение света и тени на портрете, добавление нужных деталей…

• Съемка спорта. Ничего так, можно взять на заметку.
  

  Даже у фотографов, имеющих аккредитацию — специальное разрешение на съемки, — не всегда есть возможность подойти близко к спортивным состязаниям, иногда для их же собственной безопасности, как, например, в автоспорте. Очень часто специально отведенные для прессы места оказываются неудобными для фотографирования, и здесь могут выручить либо оригинальная идея, либо длинный фокус. Почти все спортивные репортеры работают со светосильными длиннофокусными объективами, из них самыми удобными считаются 200, 300 и 500 мм или аналогичные зумы. Хорошо, если в камере есть автофокусировка с функцией слежения. Как показывает опыт, очень сложно снимать быстрое движение объектов на обычную цифровую компактную камеру. После нажатия на кнопку спуска камера еще немного думает, и затвор срабатывает с небольшой задержкой. Обидно то, что фотограф увидел момент и вовремя нажал, но ситуация изменилась, и вместо кадра — один веселый смех.

  Differences are indeed subtle. If you disagree with my conclusion that they are real enough to further warrant shooting in 14-bit raw, I invite you to do your own testing. Back in the days of film, some photographers were content to buy the best film they could based on reputation or even price and went about shooting it without worry. Others spent considerable time comparing different films to decide for themselves which they preferred. Personally, I always fell somewhere between these two camps as today I fall somewhere between those who use what should be the best tools and techniques they can and those who attempt to statistically test every component of their digital workflow. And at least for now I’ve probably had my fill of 14-bit versus 12-bit. Hard drive space is cheap these days and compact flash cards are coming down in price all the time. My best images generally record a unique moment in time when the light and scene are just right. Or at least that’s what I strive for. I generally can’t go back and retake images so I want to capture the best raw files I can when I’m there.
